Knowing the Narcissist

th06LBQLJQYou fell in love with an illusion. You fell hard and deep for something which never existed. The golden days that we created together were the twisted reflections of my manipulative hold over you. I know how anxious you were to try to recover the golden period. You poured your beautiful heart into securing the impossible. I know that my silences, my verbal violence, the cheating and the lies, my perfidious control of you was brutal, malicious and devastating. I understand that the whole avalanche of manipulative techniques I applied to you, in savage wave after insidious wave crushed your self-esteem, mauled your sanity and shattered your world. This brutality was nothing compared to the aftermath.

For now you have slipped away from my tight, choking grip. I know however that you sit looking from the window where you used to watch for me strolling up the driveway, a bouquet…

  1. Just a suggestion: I think an advisary that this could trigger PTSD in those of us who were severely harmed by a narcopath is in order. That article clenched my heart and stomach in a way I haven’t felt for a while now. Very powerful and I’m glad I read it, just wished I’d known, is all! 2. My ex was a psych nurse who was very adept at playing mind games . When she left me and I asked her why she was doing what she was doing she said and I quote “your dad didn’t die , your mom didn’t get sick (needing additional attention) and you weren’t the one who got cancer so – you should have to suffer the way I did.” Huh ? And I was there supporting her all the way – now it’s my “turn to suffer”? Had the tables been turned and I was hit with 3 nasty horrible things happening to me I would never ever have hoped to put the personal suffering onto her . 3 bad things in just over 3 yrs and now it should be my turn as she laughed her way out the door. Since then she has alienated herself from her oldest child when she tried playing head games with him. He has not spoken to her in 4 years and has never met her granddaughter as he refuses to allow that kind of mindf—- into his family. Of course she blames me for this even though I have tried to encourage an open visit since she is a mother / grandmother . That’s as far as I will go cause I understand what could come of it if she started to manipulate again. It was a terrible experience that I would not ever want to repeat.
